Persons who use various substances singly or in combination,are known to have many psychosocial problems. After asubstance takes charge of their life, their life situation getsfurther complicated by problems created by drug seekingand drug -taking behaviour. Management of substanceabuse and dependence therefore, will need a comprehensivepackage of psychosocial and psychopharmacologicalinterventions to bring these individuals back from the brink.There is much evidence now that shows that psychosocialmeasures are effective in helping an individual in identifyingthe fact that persistent use of substance is a powerfuladversary working against their progress in life; ingenerating and sustaining motivation to mount an effectiveassault on the adversary.
