摘要

Introduction: In patients with recurrent patellar instability, the risk factors for developing patellofemoral cartilage lesions, and the impact ofthese lesions on quality of life, have not been clearly delineated. Cliniciansshould appreciate the effect of these risk factors, and the natural course ofpatellofemoral cartilage lesions, when making treatment decisions andprognosticating outcome in patients with recurrent lateral patellar instability. The study hypotheses were: 1) Patellar instability risk factors will beassociated with the presence of patellofemoral cartilage lesions; and 2)Post-operative disease-specific quality of life will be negatively affected bythe presence, increasing severity, and increasing size of patellofemoralcartilage lesions identified at the time of patellar stabilization surgery.
