摘要

Diffusion model confirmed the critical role of interference control during novel metaphor comprehension Using metaphors requires considerable cognitive efforts for choosing adequate meaning of words. Specifically, altering famil- iarity of metaphors and context in which metaphoric utterance is used imposes additional processing demands on executive func- tions, specifically on interference control. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the effects of familiarity and context on metaphor processing, emphasizing the influence of individuals’ executive functions measured by various neuropsychological tests, includ- ing Stroop and COWAT task which are known to be related to interference control. Participants read 124 two-sentence pairs in Korean and responded whether the second sentence made sense after reading the first sentence. The first sentence was used as either a supporting or an opposing context, while the sec- ond sentence had a metaphoric expression in the form of “X.
