Therapeutic inhibition of the necroptosis cell death signalling pathway in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis Background: Recently, evidence suggests motor neurons undergo a form of programmed necrosis termed necroptosis during ALS pathology. Necroptosis activation is triggered by the phos- phorylation of receptor interacting kinase (RIPK) 1 and 3, and is ultimately executed by the pseudokinase mixed lineage kinase domain-like (MLKL).
