States shall ensure the closest practicable cooperationbetween maritime and aeronautical search and rescueservices where they serve the same area and, wherepractical, establish joint rescue coordination centresto coordinate aeronautical and maritime searchand rescue operation; Member States should, in cooperation with other Statesand ICAO, seek the most efficient delineation of searchand rescue regions and consider, as necessary, poolingavailable resources or establishing jointly a single searchand rescue organization to be responsible for the provisionof search and rescue services within areas extending overthe territories of two or more States or over the high seas; The Council should encourage States whose aircoverage of the search and rescue regions for whichthey are responsible cannot be ensured because ofa lack of adequate facilities, to request assistancefrom other States to remedy the situation and tonegotiate agreements with appropriate Statesregarding the assistance to be provided duringsearch and rescue operations.
