The article presents formulae describing the mathematical model and assumptions of a new method of prediction of absolute methane emissions into roadways driven by means of heading machines in hard coal mines, developed on the basis of results of investigations carried out at the Central Mining Institute. The results of verification of the new method against the background of methods developed hitherto were presented and a calculational example was given. The developed new prediction method, in relation to the applied methods, takes into consideration additionally the mechanism of methane emission kinetics, as well as the shape and range of the so-called desorption zone for the roadway working. In the light of investigations carried out the new method of prediction of absolute methane emissions enables a more exact determination of the methane quantity emitted into the driven roadway working (with special regard to the zone located close to the face), what constitutes the basis for appropriate selection of methane prevention means, and thus has an essential impact on the safety of work conducting.
