Phylogenetic Analysis of MedicagoidTrigonella L. Species based on ITS Sequence Data

Phylogeneticrelationship between 11 species belonging toMedicagoid Trigonella groupfromIran were studied and compared with 12 species belonging to non Medicagoid Trigonella, Medicago, Melilotus and Trifolium species(Fabaceae) using internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences byusing Baysian inferenceand maximumparsimony. Theresults indicate that Medicagoid Trigonellaspecies belong toBucerates and Lunatae sectionsjoined together and aremonophyletic and closetogether ratherthan anotherTrigonella sections. These results supportssome earlier studies. Our results confirmthat use ofmolecular data withmorphological characteristicsisreliable evidencein systematic discriminations ofthetaxa.
