A Virtual Survey Based Debate on Conservation Strategies of Indian Giant Flying Squirrel (Petaurista p. philippensis)(p. 16-21)

The information on status and distribution of small and rare animals arealways necessary for designing, implementation and evaluation ofconservation measures was the reason behind origin of this study on theIndian Giant Flying squirrel. Since available information is small andscattered, an attempt was made to collect information from the peoples whoare directlyor indirectly related with wildlife / forestservices. Togoahead withour research on this species, we prepared a structured questionnaire and senttothe individuals throughanonlinesurveytool, towhomwe knowand furtherthe same were also posted on social website for voluntary participation. Wehave set the time duration of the survey and at the end we received a total of 66responses from adiverse groupof individuals; mostof them belong to Gujarat.Responses were analyzed to reach a conclusion that the flying squirrelpopulation hasdeclined from thepastfewdecades.
