Windthrow - risk factor in mountain forest ecosystems

The paper presents the results of the researches concerning the elaboration and the implementation of the windthrow risk mapping systems. We analyses the concept of wind damage risk in the context of a differentiate study of catastrophic windthrow and endemic windthrow. We make a exhaustive analyses of temporal and spatial dynamics of endemic wind damage, using synthetic indicators with economic base, at the level of Forest Direction Suceava, making evident the major negative impact of this disturbant factor. The integration of wind damage factor in the management plans of mountain ecosystems, as permanent risk factor, and the taking in consideration the potential volume of windthrow must represent a reality. We propose a probabilistic model for estimation the estimation of probable volume of wind damage, with relevance at mezoscale level. Keywords: windthrow, mapping system, risk, modeling
