Fungal succession in stored rice (Oryza sativa Linn.) fodder and mycotoxin production

Succession of fungi on stored rice (Oryza sativa?Linn.) fodder during one year (2008 to 2009) was investigated. The percentage of incidence, frequency and abundance varied with the fungi detected.?Aspergillus?flavus,?Aspergillus niger,Curvularia?lunata?and?Rhizopus?stolonifer?were the most common fungi and could be detected during the entire period of one year storage. Species of?Fusariumappeared in June 2008 and persisted until January 2009.?Memmoniella echinata, Myrothecium roridum?and?Stachybotrys atra?appeared only during the latter part of the storage. Most of the fungi isolated from rice fodder were mycotoxigenic and elaborated aflatoxins, citrinin, ochratoxin A, patulin, zearalenone and satratoxin by the respective fungi.
