This paper shows the potential of MIMO in cellularsystems, where small handheld devices are used forthe terminals. A complete model of a MIMO communicationlink is used to integrate accurate antenna modellinginto MIMO system simulations. All different effects of mutualcoupling between closely spaced antennas are considered.The efficiency or power budget respectively of the antennaarrays in the terminals, which are influenced by mutualcoupling effects, is taken into account. Capacity simulationresults based on a channel obtained from ray-tracingsimulations are shown with cellular phones with up to threeInverted-F antennas.
