Thepurposeofthisstudywastoevaluatethediagnosticvalueofmagneticresonanceimaging(MRI)andassessthecorrelationbetweenthevolumeoftheischemiclesionandneurobehavioralstatusduringthesubacutestageofischemicstroke.Ischemicstrokewasinducedin6healthylaboratorybeaglesthroughpermanentocclusionofthemiddlecerebralartery(MCAO).T2-weightedandfluid-attenuatedinversionrecovery(FLAIR)imaging,diffusion-weightedimaging(DWI),measurementoftheapparentdiffusioncoefficient(ADC)ratio,andneurobehavioralevaluationwereperformed3timesseriallybyusinga1.5-TMRsystem:beforeand3and10dafterMCAO.IschemiclesionsdemonstratedT2hyperintensity,FLAIRhyperintensity,andDWIhyperintensity.TheADCratiowasdecreasedinitiallybutthenwasincreasedat10dafterMCAO.IschemiclesionvolumesonT2-weightedandFLAIRimagingwerenotsignificantlydifferentfromthoseonDWI.Thelesionvolumeandneurobehavioralscoreshowedstrongcorrelation.OurresultssuggestthatconventionalMRImaybeareliablediagnostictoolduringthesubacutestageofcanineischemicstroke.
