摘要

Climate services involve the generation, translation, communication and use of climate information (historic, monitored and forecast) and knowledge to manage risk and adapt to change (http://www.climate-services.org/about-us/what-are-climate-services/). Climate change adaptation, the introduction of climate resilience into many development programs, and creation of the Global Framework for Climate Services as a United Nations intergovernmental process have contributed to growing interest and investment in climate services for agriculture and other sectors vulnerable to climate change across the developing world. Evidence of the connection between climate risk and farmers’ livelihoods suggest that information that reduces uncertainty and supports more effective risk management should have considerable potential to benefit smallholder farmers – enabling them to understand risks, anticipate and prepare for extreme events, take advantage of favorable climate conditions, and adapt to climate change.
