1- In lithium applied groups, blood glucose levels compared to control group shower a considerable decline. This decline was not dosage dependent. 2- Lithium applied groups when compared to control group, a meaning-full increase in water cosumption was observed due to dosage. 3- There was not important alteration in weight between the control and the lithium applied groups. 4- There was not important alteration between the serum calcium levels of the control and the lithium applied groups. The absence of correlation between, the literature, claiming the effect of lithium is not dosage dependent and has lowering effect onblood glucose levels in manic depression studies and our work, may be related to the utilization of healthy experimental animals. In this situation, this finding may encourage the findings about the phsiological and hormonal changes in manic depression. Our water consumption findings correlate with the literature, in this stage lithium may act in a similar mechanism in healty volunteers. The different results recorded about the weight gain and serum calcium levels may be related to the utilization of healty experimental animals. In this situation, especially the lithium’s lowering effect of blood glucose levels and its other effects cn different parameters may be helpful to the researchers trying to explain the manic depression formation mechanism.
