摘要

Chronic urologic pain remains the highest unmet needin urology. Approximately 8% of men experiencesome degree of chronic pelvic or genitourinary painover the course of a year. A similar or greater number ofwomen experience pelvic and/or bladder pain of urologicorigin. For at least a third of these individuals, the pain ismoderate to severe, bothersome, and impacts their dailyactivities and quality of life, including sleep and sexual dysfunction. For some patients, the pain and associated symptomscan be totally disabling. For others, suicidal ideationbecomes a possible way out of their misery.
