After a gestation period of more than six years the third edition of the Union List of Serials was ready for distribution in February 1966-five volumes bound in olive drab library buckram to distinguish it from its tan H. W. Wilson-sponsored predecessors, printed on "specially selected acid-free book paper," and comprising 4,648 pages plus a few unnumbered pages of introduction, preface, explanation, and symbols. This is the last Union List of Serials in Libraries of the United States and Canada, we are told. It has been eagerly awaited, and its appearance in impressive "final" form is a happy event. The ULS has been not only a book of fundamental importance in making journals available to those who needthem, but a solid contribution of librarians to scholarship.
