Analysis of characteristics of serials held by libraries in PHILSOM which are not in the NLM collection.

IN 1980 a preliminary study was undertaken to determine the characteristics of serials held by the resource libraries in the Regional Medical Library Program which are not contained in the collectionof the National Library of Medicine (NLM). An understanding of these characteristics is needed to assist in planning for the development of the national biomedical serials holdings data base, which will be one of the components of MEDLARS III. Although the 1980 project was brief and could not address all aspects of the problem, the data collected may be of general interest to the medical library community.
