The Forty-Seventh Annual Meeting of the Medical Library Associacion also constituted a commemoration of the semi-centenary of the founding of the Association.' Nothing could have been more appropriate than for us to have been invited to celebrate this historic occasion in Philadelphia where, fifty years ago, a little group of men and women gathered in the office of Dr. George M. Gould, distinguished Philadelphia physician, for the inaugural meeting of the Association of Medical Librarians, as it was then named. The cordial invitation of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, and the co-operation and hospitality of the other medical and allied scientific libraries of Philadelphia, made it possible to have this inspirational background for our Fiftieth Anniversary Meeting, and to make it an event which the members, fortunate enough to attend, will long remember.
