MEDICAL HISTORY IN THE NORTHWEST

THE HISTORY of medicine in the Pacific Northwest may be divided into six periods, each with its distinctive men and characteristics. They may be designated as, (1) the Period of the Explorers; (2) the Period of the Independent Fur Traders; (3) the Period of Organized Fur Trade; (4) the Missionary Period; (5) the Period of American Settlement; and (6) the Period of Modern Medicine.
