Medicines quality assurance to fight antimicrobial resistance

Antimicrobial resistance is increasinglythe focus of global attention. The adoptionof resolution 68.7 at the 68th WorldHealth Assembly1 was pivotal in theongoing fight against antimicrobial resistance,as the resolution urges MemberStates to develop national action plansto fight antimicrobial resistance by 2017.To date, 67 Member States, out of 194,have already developed such plans, while62 others are in the process of doing so.2These national plans describe nationalefforts to combat resistance throughstrategies and interventions that ofteninclude strengthening surveillance ofpriority pathogens, increasing researchefforts and optimizing the use of antimicrobials,among others.
