Quantification of the main Harmful Species Attack on Ornamental Plants in Greenhouses of the Botanical Garden “Alexandru Buia”, Craiova

Ornamental plants are grown for both aesthetic and functional value, like any other crops, needs an utmost care in order to give us the beautiful flowers we desire. IPM programs should preserve both the beauty and function of ornamental plants with a minimum of pesticide use and risks. First step in controlling the harmful species, it is to identified the harmful species and to quantify their attack in order to set up an IPM program. During the research conducted in 2009 in the Greenhouse of the Botanical Garden “Alexandru Buia”, Craiova, we have identified as the main pests of the ornamental plants, the following species: Trialeurodes vaporariorum West, Macrosiphum rosae L, Pseudococcus longispinus T, Lecanium hesperidum L., Aspidiotus hederae Bouche, Tetranychus urticae Koch. For each of these species we have quantified the attack by calculating the frequency and the intensity of the attack.
