Precision milling on a grand scale

Lancashire based Holroyd Precision has manufactured one of the biggest CNC helical profile milling systems ever made on behalf of a major Chinese customer. The £2.5m machine will carry out roughing and finishing of outsize screw compressor rotors that will ultimately be used in the gas processing industry. These eight tonnes plus, stainless steel rotors require a machine tool that is capable of handling diameters of up to 850mm and lengths of up to 4.5m. A novel feature is a vision system comprising two adjustable cameras that will provide the operators with a remote view of machining operations.
