Synthesis LLP was the lead design consultant for the construction of the new $20 million regional headquarters for the New York State Department of Transportation in downtown Schenectady. Synthesis worked with NYS Office of General Services (OGS) team leaders, Turner Construction Company, and AJS Masonry, Inc. to develop a state-of-the-art design solution that is integrated with the traditional city fabric. The building replaces historic buildings that were unsuitable for reuse and there was significant interest in creating a building that would be sensitive to its central downtown core location. The 125,000-square-foot, four-story office building is a U.S. Green Building Council LEED~® Certified Silver level "green building." The design uses locally produced construction materials and a high degree of detail and craft.
