The congregation at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church had out-grown its present sanctuary, built in the early 60's, and needed a larger worship space. The building committee's wish list included several items for the new sanctuary including: a longer center aisle; seating in the round with no one seated beyond 150 degree marks; expandable seating and fixed seating; space for the music ministry — including hand bells, choir, organ and piano; the existing organ would be reused and enlarged for the new space; additional restroom facilities including robing rooms for the choir members and clergy with an office for the music director; a narthex and a sacristy; and provide a library conference room and a multipurpose space for a variety of activities. The congregation needed to grow but it didn't want to lose its "friendly and inviting" image that it had established.
