摘要

Wow! I could end the review with just that one word, but it would not be enough. They Were Heroes: A Sergeant Major's Tribute to Combat Marines of Iraq and Afghanistan is an amazing, tear jerking compilation of stories about people that have been deservedly honored by author SgtMaj David K. Devaney, USMC (Ret.). Not only was I moved by tribute after tribute, I have a new found respect for Casualty Assistance Calls Officers (CACOs). It is the CACO's duty to notify next of kin that their loved one is dead, unaccounted for or has been reported missing, and to provide assistance to that family. I had not been familiar with the role of CACOs prior to reading this book and now it is a position I hold in high regard.
