Heute, im Zeitalter asymmetrischer Konflikte, ist der ABC Schutz weit über die militärische Bedeutung hinaus eine wichtige Aufgabe des modernen Bevölkerungsschutzes und kann im Rahmen nationaler Sicherheitsvorsorge nur ressortübergreifend betrachtet werden. Der Arbeitskreis ABC Schutz des Förderkreises Deutsches Heer e.V. wurde 2003 gegründet und hat sich insbesondere durch unermüdliches und beispielhaftes Engagement seines Leiters, Herrn Oberst d. R. Dr. rer. nat. Bernd Hemmer, nicht nur fest etab- liert, sondern auch einen hervorragenden Ruf erworben. Der Arbeitskreis will die spezifischen Belange und Fragestellungen des ABC Schutzes fördern und unterstützen und allen gesellschaftlichen Kreisen näher bringen. Er will ebenso dazu beitragen, neue Ansätze in der nationalen Sicherheitsvorsorge umzusetzen und zu realisieren, wobei alle Kräfte und Mittel von Staat und Gesellschaft gebündelt werden sollen.%In our modern age of asymmetric conflict, protecting the population against nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) threats goes way beyond the classic warfare scenario. In the context of national security, the whole matter has to be managed on an interdepartmental/ interagency basis. In the year 2003, it was decided to set up a committee under the German title of 'ABC Schutz des Forderkreises Deutsches Heer e.V.' Thanks to the unstinting and exemplary work of its chairman, Colonel (Army Reserve) Dr. rer. nat. Bernd Hemmer, it has more than justified its existence and acquired an outstanding reputation. The committee strives to promote and guide public debate about the issues specific to NBC defence and to persuade all levels of society of the subject's importance. It also aims to make a contribution to the introduction and implementation of new initiatives in the scheme of national security by consolidating the various powers and resources available to the state and to society.
