The Answer To Future Challenges: New Aifv Puma

摘要

Global political challenges influence today's and tomorrow's military strategies and tactics. The probability of a high intensive conflict on home territory is increasingly unlikely; instead, armies have to focus on a wide array of new challenges. These new tasks range from UN peace-keeping and peace-enforcing missions to locally confined combat missions which are increasingly conducted as part of international combat forces and under international command. Addressing this new combat environment and the continuously increasing number of military missions and deployment scenarios, armies including the German Army have identified the capability gap for a new AIFV. The key requirements for such a new AIFV are according to the analysis of the German Army the following: 1. Maximum protection (including also active protection system and a guided anti tank missile system) for existing and emerging threats for highest possible survivability of the crew (e.g. ATGM, heavy anti tank mines, RPG's, IED);
