摘要

Those of you who read my article in DMJ43 will remember that I wrote enthusiastically about the then recently announced scheme to fund free further and higher education for qualifying Service Leavers (SL). In that piece, I identified the opportunities and challenges that this presented to both the MoD and higher education if we are to ensure that SL derive maximum benefit from the new scheme. Now that further details are available, it seems a good opportunity to revisit some of those issues in light of the additional information.rnThe ELCAS search engine currently shows 633 organisations, both public and private, on the database of approved providers. Obviously, not all of these deliver higher education, but this figure serves to illustrate the vast number of options available to SL. There are those universities that already provide in service training and those that have traditionally worked with SL. The new provisions will undoubtedly mean that more will wish to consider their offer in this area.
