摘要

The recently announced cuts have thrown ever greater management challenges at those involved in defence. However, the restructuring of defence may be considered insufficient if the UK does not increase the interaction between the two spheres of military and commercial management. The defence and commercial sectors should cooperate more, enhancing efficiencies in which the commercial sector can offer expertise, whilst enabling defence to focus on what it considers to be its core competencies. In facilitating this transition, defence should be freed of tasks outside its core business and be able to become more adaptable to shifting security challenges. By improving its own processes and overcoming outdated structures, which hinder innovation, defence should become sufficiently agile to deliver success both now and in the future.
