Sensing an opportunity

Recent MoD statements have emphasised the vital role of world-class scientific research and development (R&D) in supporting UK military capability. Understanding how advanced technology can produce cost-effective military equipment and tactical advice requires deep and comprehensive technical knowledge that is up-to-date and continually refreshed. This is all the more critical in the underwater domain, which is uniquely important to UK interests. Not only is the vast proportion of its trade transported by sea and therefore vulnerable to underwater threats, but the UK's strategic deterrent system is submarine-based, relying on covertness for protection.
