As the UK's withdrawal of combat troops from Afghanistan begins to gather pace this year, questions about the repatriation of materiel are starting to be raised. Approximate figures are already being quoted as to how much will have to be left behind. As the 2014 deadline approaches, there are also likely to be detailed questions asked about the safe removal and ultimate fate of the UK's stock of munitions, with which the Herrick operations have been kept supplied for more than a decade.
