摘要

Any criticism of Indo-US civil-nuclear deal would smack of "sour grapes", since a similar deal was refused to Pakistan on grounds of "the different histories and needs of the two nations". President Pervez Musharraf has asked Pakistanis not to be pessimistic and Indocentric. Unfortunately, threat perception is based not on intentions but capabilities and with a tit-for-tat history of the subcontinent, it is difficult to ignore developments in the region and remain oblivious of them. Fortunately, as the Indo-US civil nuclear accord is being examined by US Congress for approval, the US and Indian media, and various members of US think tank by expressing their reservations, save us the blushes.
