Rumoured Mils

US government agencies such as the army, air force and intelligence services have long made efforts to capture and study Soviet helicopters. For example, in 1959 an Austrian company, Export Schifter & Co, was able to acquire a Mil Mi-4 Hound piston-engined helicopter, registered CCCP-31540.The sale was allowed to go ahead as the allied occupation of Austria had only recently ended and the country was still considered friendly by the Soviet Union. While the Mi-4 was indeed used to transport passengers and goods from Vienna, it spent a great deal of its time in a hangar under the 'supervision'of US mechanics.
