Complementarity among Regional Fisheries Bodies and Asian Large Marine Ecosystems sustainability

This paper summarizes the current situation in Asian Large Marine Ecosystems Projects and Regional Fisheries Bodies. Sound fisheries management, the priority of the Fisheries Bodies, is essential to sustainability of a Large Marine Ecosystem. The way forward requires complementarity not rivalry. It is suggested that as a start, an agreement for a "Fisheries Platform" for the LME and regular meetings of the LME Project and the Regional Fisheries Bodies be established with the priority for the RFB being tactical management issues immediately required by management, with the LME Project focus on the strategic longer term considerations.
