Winning Hearts and Minds: An Argument for Quantitative Analysis in an Operations Management Course

The students clearly see from the group exercise, the simple simulation and the real-world case study the importance of metrics, empirical data, and quantitative methods. They've seen and experienced TFA in action. They accept the fact that operations management requires a modicum of quantitative rigor to uncover objective, verifiable, defensible, communicable insights critical to ongoing process improvement. They are prepared for the quantitative models and methods that are to come in the remainder of the course. They understand their purpose and importance, and, most important, they appreciate their relevance for effective decision making.
