Printer and scanner product introductions from Epson this season include a canny solution to archiving thousands of photos for posterity without the intense labor and cataloguing usually required: the FastFoto FF-640 photo scanning system ($649.99). The system, ideal for consumers with large collections of legacy photos they are keen on preserving, stacks up to 30 photos in its feeder without doing damage to the originals, and scans the front and (to capture handwritten notes) the back of printed photos at a rate of one per second at 300 dpi quality. It will do color correction at the same time, said Epson, and it is designed with a custom roller. It also comes with a "handling sheet," and its paper path is made to accommodate fragile photos. A document organizing feature groups photos into folders by occasion, and the scanner will also back up photos scanned to the cloud.
