Stopped FDI in Retail? Here comes E-commerce

Nothing, not even politicians, can stop an idea whose time has come. At best, they can make it enter through a different door. Power to the Indian consumer is one such idea. Allowing FDI in retail, which a section of the political parties have successfully stalled, was just a euphemism for that. The real need of the hour is to free the Indian consumer from the clutches of the owners of the local kirana stores-projected by some political parties as hapless, vulnerable, and bechara, but in reality, they are just the opposite. Not only do they exploit consumers, they are powerful enough to stall any government move that affects them negatively-be it FDI in retail or the demolition of illegal buildings in many cities.
