Marketers are keen to push ice cream in the USA, In 2002 ice cream manufac- turers spent $52.69 million (EUD41.78 million) on advertising frozen dairy products - the most since 1998. That is despite the fact that the USA is already famous for its high ice cream consumption. According to International Dairy Foods Association figures, in 2002 the average American ate over 18.2 litres of ice cream. That is only second in the world to New Zealand, where each year each person eats around 26 litres of ice cream, and compares with 8.2 litres in Italy and just 3.8 litres in Germany.
