I joined Jersey Dairy in 2003 when it was going through an extremely difficult patch. We had been a substantial player in the milk jigger (individual portion milk) market, supplying caterers and airlines. However, price pressures meant that it became a big loss maker for us. When milk prices in Europe plummeted, the island's farmers became uncompetitive and we were forced to reconsider our strategy.
