The value of US exports moved up again in 2008, according to the US International Dairy Foods Association, to US$3.75 billion (€2.9 billion), up 26% over 2007. The trade balace for US dairy products increased to $706.8 million (€553.4 million) in 2008, from $174 million (€136.2 million). Nonfat dry milk exports made up the largest volume for exports, amounting to 862.8 million pounds, which was an increase of 52.7% over 2007. Dry whey exports dropped 17.5% versus 2007, but they still made up 772.4 million pounds exported. The largest purchasers of US dairy products are Mexico and Canada, which made up 37% of the total export value, or $1.38 billion (€1.08 billion). The Philippines imported $210 million, while Indonesia took in $209.2 million of exports. However, IDFA has noted that the trend has slowed in recent months with total export revenue in December 2008 around 34% lower than December 2007 revenue.
