Leading from behind

On 1 January the revolving presidency changed. Greece holds the position for the fifth time during its membership of the EU, taking over from Lithuania. This presidency is probably the most difficult for Greece, which has been the recipient of almost €250 billion in bail out loans and aid from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the last three years. Indeed the EU and the IMF are currently deciding on whether to provide a further aid package as Greece struggles to get its economy on an even keel.
