If it isn't safe, it isn't food

It seems a basic premise for food and its consumption, but the second sustainable development goal put forward by the United Nations is simply to end hunger. Part of doing that is to ensure food safety, as unsafe food can sicken or kill people. With that in mind, the webinar, "If it isn't safe, it isn't food: promoting food safety to achieve the 2030 SDG agenda," was part of the UN Food Systems Summit 2021 pre-summit discussions. Caroline Smith DeWaal, the deputy director of EatSafe (Evidence and Action Towards Safe, Nutritious Food) at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) was the moderator. The work being done, she says, is to highlight the importance of food safety for achieving SDG, especially SDG 2, which aims to end hunger. The goal is to engage with stakeholders on the next steps for a coalition for action.
