Normally used to create energy savings and efficiency improvements, the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted another reason to consider displacement air handling technology in the workplace. Employee safety, now and in the future, is a key factor as businesses consider how best to get teams back to work. Measures must be put in place to maintain social distancing to mitigate against the potential airborne spread of this or other viruses. However, more can be achieved using displacement air handling technology. Penmann's solutions are proven to assist in reducing the potential for infection in the workplace, as well as delivering a number of additional benefits. Displacement air handling works by introducing air into occupied working zones at low velocity to reduce entrainment with internal air. Natural buoyance forces ensure that the fresh cool air pools at low level. As this air comes into contact with heat sources - people and machinery - it forms a thermal plume that takes the warm internal air, and many of the airborne contaminants, upwards, where it can be extracted.
