摘要

Ever since alphabetic writing has migrated from the printed page to the digital screen, there has been an urgent need for literary theory to develop towards encompassing theory outside of its regular departmental and canonical scope. N. Katherine Hayles (1984, 1991) was one of the first theorists to combine literary studies with computer science and the natural sciences. However, in general, theory on digital literature and writing has mostly been concerned with understanding the semantics and aesthetics of the multisemiotic and interactive screen (Kress, 2003; Heibach, 2003; Pold, 2005), and the effects of media convergence. Or it has been concerned with the evolution of writing as a human technology (Bolter, 1991; Landow, 1997). But generally it has been lacking the broader, and necessary scope of integrating aspects from computer science, Information Theory, and Cybernetics more thoroughly.
