William G. "Buddy" Downey said he is proud to join the ranks of the professionals who have won RTA's Broad Axe Award. "When I think back on the past winners, it is a list of leaders in our industry. "After serving in WWII, my father joined the railroad as a locomotive engineer, serving 40 years between Clifton Forge and Charlottesville, Va. He was engineer for President Dwight D. Eisenhower's funeral train since he served under him at D-Day."
