K2BSA: Amateur Radio at the Boy Scout National Jamboree

Quadrennial events are big and special because they take place only once every four years. There are the national presidential elections and the Olympic Games, and then there's the Boy Scout National Jamboree. This year marks the 16th national gathering since the first one took place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in 1937. The numbers attending the event are staggering: 33,000 scouts, 7500 leaders, and up to 10,000 visitors on the nights of special productions called "Arena Shows" (see the sidebar "By the Numbers" for more statistics). How big is the Jamboree? The President of the United States usually makes a personal appearance at one of these Arena Shows.
