A few months ago, I was sitting at my radio operating a contest, which is something I enjoy a few times a year. Like many older hams, I have a hearing problem, with one ear completely gone and the other about half gone. With a hearing aid in my "good" ear and a set of headphones over the ears, I can manage my radio reasonably well. Many readers know what it's like to operate a contest. You sit there for hours and hours over a weekend. You turn up the volume to strain to copy a weak station, when suddenly your head is blasted by a very strong station on the frequency (or right next door). Setting the radio to fast AGC is no help.
