Crane victims still in Hospital

The two men catapulted from a crane three storeys high on to a York street remain in a Leeds hospital more than a week after the incident.rnShocked passers-by saw the two workmen being flipped out of their "cherry picker" aerial platform on to the pavement below, in Bootham, at its junction with Bootham Terrace, before 11am on Thursday, August 2. The men, both from York, were taken by ambulance to York Hospital and were later transferred to Leeds General Infirmary.rnYesterday, police said one of the men, a 43-year-old, who was initially put on a ventilator suffering from a fractured skull and eye injuries, was in a critical condition.rnThe second man, a 36-year-old, was said to be in a stable condition, having suffered rib and facial injuries. As reported in The Press, it is believed the accident may have occurred after a passing HGV clipped the arm of the crane carrying the pair.rnNorth Yorkshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive are carrying out a joint investigation to find out what caused the incident, which could take weeks to complete.
