摘要

Many discrete manufacturers ensure quality control over production processes by directly marking parts with machine-readable codes and tracking those parts through their life cycle. This process is known as direct part mark identification (DPMI). Fast, accurate, and reliable DPMI is a challenge because codes can be difficult to read because of low contrast, variations in part surfaces, and partial damage from process and environmental conditions. If a code is unreadable, the part is not processed, production may stop, and an automated machine may go down.
