Chicago fitters open $15 million training center

Mokena, Ill.-Construction projects entail many potentially dangerous duties that just can't be taught in conventional classrooms, and inadequate training can lead to accidents and injuries. United Association Pipefitters Local Union 597 addressed this issue when they built their new Pipefitters' Training Center here. Instructors at the center can replicate potentially dangerous work situations so apprentices can learn to perform safely under similar conditions on the job.
